When we discussed the core values of Growing Me, they were, and continue to be, our guiding principles. We found the words “Let the Sunshine In” as we spoke about the need to notice and celebrate the good bits of life. We recognised that a capacity to search for and celebrate what is heart-warming and positive is vital and has far-reaching consequences for all aspects of life.
Without remembering the goodness in life, we can withdraw from relationships and our energy for life runs low; we can become our fears.
“Let the Sunshine In” also speaks to the experience of receiving love. Such a beautiful experience is a crucial part of being human but for many people being loved can be painfully complicated.
For children who have experienced early life trauma and the people who love them, there are plenty of difficulties in day to day life. Let the sunshine in is our way of …. remembering that children want our love more than anything – even as they push us away. …. remembering the beautiful and funny bits of a day as well – and paying slightly less attention to the rubbish bits. …. remembering that humans are loving and generous – even whilst the news is full of hurt and war.
We love Positive News for showing us the amazing things that are happening in the world and Growing Me has its very own Wonder Book to record all the best bits of the day, whilst not sweeping the tricky bits under the rug!
