Sustainable Destruction!

15th April 2024: Hail on the first morning of the summer term! Gahhhh! Don’t know about you, but hailstones down the back of the neck on the school run is not something I want to celebrate.

Growing Me knows the importance of finding sunshine and beauty in the everyday but, equally, we also know when it’s time for a grumble! A set of rip-me leaves are included in every Growing Me toolkit to those more destructive moments when a child just needs to make a bit of a mess.

Children who’ve experienced trauma often internalise their experiences, believing that they are rubbish and even that they are the reason that bad things have happened.

It’s understandable that these children sometimes destroy the good things they have made or experienced because it doesn’t fit in with their negative view of themselves… Certificates chucked in the bin, drawings ripped up, or a messed up bedroom at the end of a fantastic day.

And this is why we’ve included the rip me leaves… so that EVERY part of a child is welcome.
